A group of Turkey miners have been arrested in the country’s north after an illegal coal mine was discovered, according to reports.
According to local media, a mine was spotted in the region of Baniyas in the province of Konya.
The miners were caught red-handed, and were taken to a local police station to be questioned, said local media.
“They are facing charges of criminal damage and trespassing,” a police statement said.
It was not immediately clear how the illegal mine was found.
Turkey is one of the biggest producers of coal in the world.
Turkey produces more than 40% of global supply of the mineral.
