Al Jazeera is reporting that the Nigerian mining industry has seized equipment belonging to the United States and Germany in the north-western Nigerian state of Kaduna.
The United States Department of Commerce has issued a travel warning to US citizens and residents in Nigeria after the seizure.
The State Department said the equipment was seized after the Nigerian government notified the US Embassy of the “suspicious activity” by foreign companies, which were not accredited.
The US Embassy in Lagos told Al Jazeera it is “aware of reports that Nigeria is preparing to impose travel restrictions in response to the seizure of equipment by foreign entities”.
In April, a US court ordered Nigerian authorities to return the equipment, which was found in the Lagos airport terminal.
